Review: Tony Moly Backstage Eyeliner

10:11:00 PM

Okay, so here's a little intermezzo....
It is now 11:30 PM and two of my cats just fight on top of my bed! And one of them peed on the bed because he was too scared!! WTF?!!

Kiddo, you're grounded from my bed!

---------------

Okay so.... Let's get started with the post now, shall we?

If you remember about my recent Korea Buys series, I got four items from Korea Buys this month and I have reviewed two of them which are the Tonymoly Tangerine Hand Cream and the Skin Food Black Sugar Washh-Off Mask.

So now it's time for one of the best-seller from Tonymoly products which is the Backstage Gel Eyeliner. I'm gonna review the Tonymoly Pure Aura CC Cream the last, because obviously it is the most hyped product amongst the four items above ;p

Well I might be too late in posting this review because I know this eyeliner has been popular since like last year? or maybe even since 2 years ago? I don't know... But I never actually tried it despite how much I wanted it, so today I'm so happy to finally be able to try it out and write my thoughts about the product here.

So the Tonymoly Backstage Gel Eyeliner is considered as one of the best-seller of Tonymoly product because they said that it's long lasting, had a great formula, and the color is pitch black.

Well I pretty much consider myself as an eyeliner junkie because I love eyeliners and I wear eyeliners all the time. Like 95% of the time I always wear eyeliners when I go out even though it's just a very thin line. I pretty much have tried all of eyeliner formulas out there (pencils, felt tip, pen, liquid, powder, and gel).  And as you can see from the name, this Tonymoly Backstage Eyeliner is a Gel type.

Actually this is my second time trying on a gel eyeliner. My first was from an indie label cosmetic that I got for review purposes back when I first started blogging, and it didn't go quite well (or maybe it was me who didn't use it properly as I was basically a newbie in makeup back then ;p). So I am now pretty curious to try another gel eyeliner now that I (think) I know how to apply it properly ;p

Gel eyeliners are one of the trickiest makeup product to use, but the result is usually pretty much awesome. This one from Tonymoly has a simple and sleek packaging with a built-in brush (which is always a plus in my book).

The brush is stored inside the cap so when you pulled the cap you will find a brush there. And the brush is expendable too, so you can adjust the length whether you want it shorter or a bit longer according to the eyeliner shape that you're after. The brush tip is quite pointy and it is made of "stiff but soft" brush, I don't know how to explain it but you could see it from the picture below:

This gel eyeliner is waterproof and I got mine in the color black. I actually love the simple packaging and the built-in brush. Well, I also tried applying it with my other brush and I think it was better than the original Tonymoly brush included, but overall the original brush is pretty much alright too.

As for the texture and color, I really love it. The color is a true black color, quite thick and bold, perfect if you want some definition. I think it would look great for parties or formal events or for a night look. I also love the texture. Even though it looks like it has a hard surface on the photo below but it is actually really easy to just lightly dip the brush into it to get the product out, because the actual texture is kinda like a creamy gel.

By now I have used this eyeliner for several times and I love it. It does took a longer time to apply it compared to my usual pencil or felt tip eyeliner because as I said above, applying gel eyeliner is trickier. But I really love the result and how it lasts super long even on my oily eyelid.

The formula applies smoothly on the lid and does not smudge all day. I used it for several hours and it still stay intact when I got home. I love the bold black color that accentuates my eyes even more, and I also love using it to make a bold eyeliner shape like a cat eye or a wide winged-out look.

 thin strokes:

 more dramatic thicker strokes:

As you can see above, the thicker / bolder the better, LOL. I love how it looked on the lids. And I also love that it's waterproof and sweat-proof.

I did a waterproof test to see whether it would smudge or melt under the water, but apparently it didn't. I scrubbed it after I poured water over it, and it still didn't budge or smudge, so I give this 10 points for durability.

And even though it has strong staying power but it cleansed off easily just by using regular eye makeup remover. So that's another plus for me!

Overall, I really like this Tony Moly Backstage Gel Eyeliner because of the super thick bold color, the texture, the staying power, and the waterproof formula. I also love that it's easy to clean despite the strong staying power. Now I know why this eyeliner is a big hype back then ;)

Below are a couple of photos that I took when I used this eyeliner. Please stay tune to read my review on the last item from this month's Korea Buys hauls which is the Tony Moly Pure Aura CC Cream.

You can get this Tony Moly Backstage Gel Eyeliner at the Korea Buys website for IDR 102.000. This is available locally so you only have to pay for local (Indonesian) shipping fee.
