Review: Maybelline BB Stick

1:05:00 AM

I love using BB Cream for it's practicality, especially for daily use. You don't need to wear thick foundation to cover up those flaws, sometimes we just need a BB cream to do that.

After a couple of years using various BB Creams, I was so intrigued to learn about this special-shaped BB Cream from Maybelline. Yes, this is the new BB Clear Stick from Maybelline!

My first ever BB Cream was from Maybelline. It was the Clear Smooth Minerals BB Cream, and I loved using it from the first time I bought it until now. It has been one of my go-to BB Cream.

Now Maybelline wants to introduced us to this new generation of their Clear Smooth BB cream which is: the BB Stick! Yep, it is a BB Cream in a stick!

How intriguing is that, right? Anything in a stick usually is more practical, and this BB Stick certainly is! I am very lucky to be able to try these first hands, and I was surprised to see the gimmick packaging they were sent with! It's a giant size BB Stick container! :D - I love it!

Inside it were the BB Stick samples. I received two shades of BB Stick so I can pick which one is better suited to my skin. But after opening one of them and tried it on, I found that it was already the right color for me so I didn't open the other one because I don't want to waste it. But maybe later on, if I change my mind I would open it anyway ;p

According to Maybelline, this BB Stick has 8 benefits in a stick:
  • It has mineral clay formula so it guarantees 12hr shine control.
  • The end result is just like wearing a face powder.
  • Hides the appearance of dark spots, redness, wrinkles & imperfection.
  • Hides the appearance of pores.
  • Provides a radiant finish.
  • Instantly evens skin tone.
  • Provides a soft matte finish.
  • Contains SPF 21/PA+++ that protects skin from sun damage (UVA & UVB).
You got 8 benefits in one stick! How cool is that?!
It's a BB cream + a shine-free powder + UV protection all in one.
I love all-in-one products like this, very practical for a busy daily life where we have so much to do and didn't have much time to do our face for more than a half hour ;p

It's small and very practical & handy to use

First of all, I love the packaging. It's small yet quite sturdy so it is very handy to use. You can easily grab it and swipe the BB Stick on the areas of the face, and then I like to blend it with my fingers until it gave me an overall natural complexion.

It's a roll-on type of packaging so you roll it like a lipstick to bring the BB Stick out.

I love the color of the packaging and how it was clear on top so you can see the color of the shade correctly. You can also find the name of the shade on the bottom of the packaging. I received the #02 Natural and #03 Radiance.

I opened the #02 Natural one because after seeing the color from the clear top of the packaging I thought Natural would suits me better, and when I tried it on, I was right indeed. The color suits my skin tone after blending it out, and it looks very natural too, like I didn't wear anything which in fact I did ;p

It's like wearing a "no makeup" makeup ;)
It also feels like I don't wear anything on my face because the formula is so light. I also love the texture which is non-sticky at all and it's very blendable, so you can layer it again if you want extra coverage.

This is the shade #02 Natural

It has a light to medium coverage, depends on how much you swiped it / use the product on your face.

As I said, the formula is buildable so you can add extra layers if you need some extra coverage. You can also just dab it in the area that you want extra coverage, such as a darker area on your face, or on top of that black spot you hate on your face ;p

This looks too bright for my skin tone but once blended in, it would look natural instead.

You can see below how it looks on my skin before and after application. For the below photo I only use one layer of the BB Stick and I think it would be enough for a daily look if you add a finishing loose powder on top of it.

Sometimes I just go out without adding any finishing powder, just add some lipstick, eyebrow pencil, and mascara, and I'm ready to go ;)

 Left: Before // Right: After

These two above are after 2-3 layers of some light swipes of BB Stick. You can see how much buildable the coverage is. On the left photo above you see how it hides my pores and tiny dark spots, however it didn't fully cover my enormous zit at the bottom ;p

I also have a photo on where I only used the BB Stick on my left side of the face to show you how it differs from my right side (which is the "Before"). You will see how the BB Stick would brighten my skin in an instant:
You may see that it's still too "white" at this stage but a couple of minutes later the shade would blend with the skin and create a more natural radiant look. Just like this one below:

Overall, I love this BB Stick and if you love BB Cream then I think you should try this stick version because it is more practical to use. It's also not oily at all so it's perfect for us who lives in this tropical country of Indonesia ;)

According to it's claim, it does hold the oil at bay for many hours without melting. I also love how light the formula is and how it is blendable so we can adjust the coverage we want.

Thank you Maybelline for introducing this BB Stick to us! :D

  2. Nope, I have combination oily skin and this bb stick didn't cause any breakout or any bad reaction to my skin.

I personally think that whatever the brand is for a BB cream, as long as we clean it properly before we go to sleep (deep cleansing is a must) then I suppose there won't be any breakouts unless you're allergic to one of the ingredients.
But that's just my personal opinion.. ;)

    Thanks for stopping by dear..

  4. @Margaretha: Hehe soalnya BB Cream lebih nampol urusan coverage nya ya dibanding CC Cream, jadi kalo pendapat aku misal butuh coverage yg lumayan ya mending pilih BB Cream. Kalo mau natural look maka go with CC Cream ;)

Oya, aku juga pernah cobain yg caring, bagus juga ;)

  6. Yeah right . I'm only 16 but I'm using this bb stick and I love it .
All makeup products you used on your face can cause pimples and breakouts if you didn't clean your face before you go to sleep .

    @Anonymous:
Yes, the key is to always properly clean your face before you go to sleep at night ;) Sometimes the reason of breakout is not because an allergic to the ingredients but it might be the cause of clogged pores as a result of not cleaning it properly and thoroughly.
