[Shopping Diary] : First Purchase Of The Year - 2018

4:13:00 PM

Unlike the years before, this year I did my "first purchase of the year" nearly at the end of January. Usually I always managed to shop early (LOL) but at the beginning of this year me and hubby were actually on a tight shopping ban due to a big "housing-tax" expense that we must pay early this year. So we were on a tight shopping ban for the last 2 months and actually still on shopping ban as I write this now, but I managed to squeeze in a little bit of splurge at the end of the month 😬.

I wasn't suppose to buy anything during our shopping ban but I made an exception for this. I've been following this online consignment store for a while because I love their curated items. Then I found out that they were having a little discount promo a little while back, and I saw the 1-2 items I've been eyeing for so long from their store were still there and on discount too!

I have been eyeing these items for a while but always thought that they are still a little bit expensive than what I would pay them for, so I kept following the store just to keep track of these items. Then finally I was surprised to find out that they were having promotion and lower their prices for a short amount of time. I saw that the pieces I wanted were considerably cheaper than the original price so even though we were on a tight shopping ban my husband allowed me to make the purchase :) So these items are the only exceptions I made during our January shopping ban :

I'm slowly building a more curated wardrobe since last year so I like to collect more upscale pieces that would lasts me years and years, rather than keep buying cheaper items that would only lasts me 4-5 years. But don't get me wrong, I still buy pieces from generic brands like F21, H&M or Matahari brands. And for trendy pieces that are "currently on-trend" I like to buy them at even cheaper places like small boutiques or from ITC 😜, Because these "trend items" usually only wearable for a year or less, because once the trend ends you can't wear them anymore because you're afraid you'll look outdated 😛 Yes people, it's hard to follow the trend all the time ...

Anyway, that's my method ==> Buy cheaper items for trendy items that you think wouldn't last long. But then invests in buying classic pieces that you know you can wear forever by getting them from more upscale brands. For me, it's alright to spend a little bit more towards an item that you know you WILL wear forever. But it's NOT worth it to buy trendy items with expensive price because they would only lasts until the trend is over (which usually around 1-2 years max).

So anyway, that's the reason why I purchased these items at the first place, because I think they would  make a good investment in my wardrobe. I also always look for cheaper way to purchase them so I don't mind getting them from preloved market or consigment store especially if they are still in very very good condition (*most of them even still looks like new or still has their original tag on!*).

Kenzo Cropped Cardigan
First of all is this flowy knit cardigan with silky trim which looks like a shrunken kimono-esque robe 😀 I love this Kenzo wrap cardi since the first time I saw it at the store but at that time I wasn't willing to pay for the initial price. Luckily I waited long enough because finally I can purchase it within the price range that I'm comfortable with ;)

This is my first Kenzo clothing item and I always love their clothing such as their iconic Tiger sweater (which is on my wish list but they're too expensive and I never found a sale, *sad face*). I also love their Tiger espadrille which I purchased last year from Reebonz. So this is my second Kenzo item in my wardrobe right now, and hopefully the start of many in the future, LOL... (*well, a girl can dream, right?*).

Anyway, I love how flowy and airy this cardigan is. The knit is so nice and light so it's perfect for the tropical weather here. I also love how the silk trim softens it up a little bit, making it looks more elegant and wearable for formal wear. The silky trim also has an oriental pattern, making it look like a kimono ;)

Ted Baker Floral Smocked Top
This is a newer item listed by the store and I love it when I first saw it. I actually wasn't sure about the pattern because it's too much floral for my personality, LOL. But I love the smocked style and thought it would look good on my petite frame. I also haven't owned Ted Baker before so this would be my first piece from them.

I love Ted Baker because this British designer brand has that girly and playful theme to its designs. As I told you I wasn't sure about the super feminine floral pattern of this blouse at first, but I went ahead and purchased it anyway because the price is worth it. But when I initially wore it the next day I didn't feel that it's too much floral anymore. Hubby said a lot of good things about me wearing this blouse too, so it's hubby-approved!

Then I looked back at the pictures of when I wore this blouse and I think it does look nice and doesn't really look too girly at all. I think this blouse will make a lot of appearance in my outfit diary in the future :)

I wore these two pieces immediately after I received them. Yes, I literally wear them the next day after I received them, LOL. I will post the photos of when I wore them in my next outfit diary post, so stay tuned and subscribed here :)

Overall, these two are classic pieces that I personally think I could wear for a long time. The cropped cardigan is a nice addition to my wardrobe because I don't own enough cropped cardigan yet, and this is perfect to cover up my more formal sleeveless dresses. And the smocked blouse is something that I would wear all the time because the shape really suits my body type and hubby seems to really love this blouse too because he kept giving me compliments all day when I first wore this blouse :)
SO it is a good investment after all ... 😊
