*OLD-FAVES* : MUA Eyeshadow Palette

8:02:00 PM

Hello everyone!
Happy New Year 2015 and happy holidays for you all ....

I apologize for the non-active mode for the past several weeks, I still got a lot of things in my hand right now and I got really overwhelmed by that. I have so many domestic and personal things to do at the moment, and I was also busy doing some fertility treatment for the past months so I just simply don't have time to open my laptop.

I also want to express my deepest sympathy for the victims of the missing Air Asia flight and their grieving families. It was a tragedy and the news were heartbreaking but at least now they have found the debris and the suspected location of the plane.

Anyway today on the first day of January, 2015 - I would like to post something on this blog. The weather has been very windy in Jakarta for the past few days and tonight is a super cold night. I got bundled up with my polkadot F21 legging, long sleeve pink Victoria's Secret sleepwear, and my new stripes/pink socks, along with my super cute pink sleep mask that I got from Daiso :)

I have been doing some thinking and came up with some new plans for this blog and my other blog TIGERLILY'S BOOK, so you might see some changes here in the near future.

For January, I'm thinking of finishing all of my old drafts so I can put them up here on the blog although they are probably about old products that are not trending anymore. I will put them as a blog series called [Old Faves] - and it will start from today's post, which highlights my MUA Eyeshadow Palettes (^_^)

I got these MUA palettes a long time ago when MUA (Make Up Academy) is having a huge sale and includes free international shipping. I bought quite a lot of things from them at that time, and I've read so many times in other blogs that MUA has a very good quality eyeshadow palettes. So that's why I decided to try them, and my picks were the MUA Pretty Pastels palette and MUA Glamour Days palette :

I remember everything were really cheap with the discount, and the website was having problem because there were so many people who went to the website at the same time to check out the sale. In my haul I bought 3 eyeshadow palettes, 1 mosaic blusher in english rose, 1 intense kisses lip gloss, 2 lipsticks, 1 stick concealer, and 4 face brushes.

My favorite among the products were the palettes and the lip gloss. I haven't opened the blush yet until now because it is too pretty and I don't want to ruin the mosaic pattern ;p

The Pretty Pastels eyeshadow palette has 12 shades of pretty pastel shades such as pale lilac, pink, peach, pale green, pale blue, and some neutral lighter shade for highlights. All the shades has light shimmers in it except for one neutral beige shade which is a balance between matte and shimmery. This palette is perfect for a morning/day makeup with pale pastel colors that won't overdo your whole appearance.

The swatches look promising but actually I needed several layers to be able to show the colors on the photo above. I think for my skintone the colors don't really pop up and I needed a primer to make sure that the pale colors can show on my lids. Instead of primer, I like to use a white base such as the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk all over my lid before I put on any of the shade from this palette.

I do think that this palette would be much more suitable for those with fair skin because of the pale shades. Tan skin (like me) can still use this palette as long as they use a primer or a white base underneath to make the colors pop.

Here are a couple of photos from when I used this MUA Pretty Pastels palette. I'm sorry if the pictures below are rather low quality because I took it with my phone at night so the lighting wasn't very good to really capture the shades, but I hope you can get a glimpse on how the color turns out.

(using three colors: pale pink, pale green, and pale purple)

(using pink and beige)

While the Pretty Pastels palette above are packed full with pale shades, the Glamour Days eyeshadow palette has 12 shades of more defined colors such as shimmering blue, purple, gold, wine, and some neutrals mattes for highlights. This palette has a combination of shimmery and matte colors with a more rich hue compared to the Pretty Pastels palette above. It's perfect for night events and/or for parties, or if you want to feature your eye makeup.

The swatches are really nice and these colors suits my skin tone better because of the rich hue. This is my most favorite palette because I've been using all colors in the palette so far. The shades are perfect to create several color combination for eye makeup. From shimmery festive look perfect for a night out, to daily muted look by using only the neutral colors such as browns and beige.

I love bringing this palette when I'm traveling or spending night elsewhere because this palette has all the colors I needed for every occasion. I can wear the browns for daily look, and I can switch to blue and purple for party look. My favorite shade is the wine color and I've been using it very much with a combination of gold or dark brown. Both of the color combo really accentuate my eyes if I may say so ;)

Most of the shades are shimmery but don't worry, they won't look too sparkly once you wear them on your eyelid. I still prefer to use them with primer underneath to make them pop even more. The staying power (with a primer) is medium, and they have minimal fall-off considering they are quite shimmery. The colors are beautiful and it makes so many great color combo.

Here are some pictures of when I used the Glamour Days palette. The pictures are (again) taken from my phone so please excuse the quality.

Overall, the quality were pretty nice for the price. It's affordable and can deliver great colors especially with primers underneath. The packaging are really flimsy though, but I don't mind that, you just have to be very careful with it so it won't fall and break. So far I love both of the palettes because they are able to create beautiful color combos, and the texture is actually pretty great.

I recommend these palettes for those of you who wants to try out more colors, or for those of you who are newbie to the makeup genre. MUA palettes are cheaper than most of other palettes out there and the website ships internationally (sometimes with free shipping offer).

If you want to try out these palettes, make sure to follow my blog because I will be having a local giveaway soon and one of the prize will be a MUA eyeshadow palette ! (^_^)
