Gucci Bamboo edp (eau de parfum)

Top notes : Bergamot
Middle notes : Ylang Ylang, Casablanca Lily, Orange Blossom
Base notes : Sandalwood, Tahitian Vanilla, Amber

As you can see from the advertisements above, the face of Gucci Bamboo is Gal Gadot. And the name of the perfume does not necessarily means that it has bamboo scent, but instead it refers to one of Gucci bags line called "Gucci Bamboo Bags" which has bamboo handles.

I fell in love with the shape of the bottle and the pale purple juice inside it when I first saw this perfume, so I went ahead and blindly purchase it without knowing the scent first. This usually only happens if I like the packaging so much I almost wouldn't mind about the scent. As you see, I'm a bit of a packaging-lover. I go crazy with cute packaging.

Anyway, the bottle shape is so pretty with bamboo handle as the cap, an elegant multi faceted bottle, and a very pale grey-ish purple juice inside. My first impression when sniffing this perfume from the bottle is : it's soft enough like air and water.

But when I wore it on the skin it smells a bit different. The opening fragrance kinda smells like a fresh scented fluffy towel (which translates as “soft, fresh, and clean”). I liked the the first notes of this perfume.

It’s a clean feeling at the opening, mixed with soft powdery casablanca lily from the heart notes that smells pretty, like it was given a feminine touch. There’s also hints of crisp freshness still lingering from the opening to the middle notes.

But then the floral seems to just keep on getting stronger, resulting in an almost linear heavy floral scent from the middle notes all through the end. I can also picked up something crisp and citrusy lying underneath that was a little bit strong for my nose, making me feel a little bit heady if I spray too much of this perfume (it could be the ylang-ylang or bergamot). Anyway, I don't really liked this middle-notes part, the straight floral fragrance was a little bit too sharp for me.

And the middle notes seem to last forever on me (up to 6 hours, is that even possible?) before it slowly dries down. So I kinda lost my interest by this point because the longer the middle notes held on to my skin means the longer I have to bear my nose being hurt by that particular heady scent (which I'm still not sure whether it's ylang-ylang or bergamot that my nose can't stand).

The base notes is rather weak at first, so the fresh crisp floral notes is still all I could smell (pretty much a linear scent). But after a while the slightly musky woody base notes starts to creep in and stands as the background for the “now powdery” florals. The dry down is kinda nice actually, except it took so long to get there.

Sillage and projection, low at first. Even when I just freshly put on this perfume and my husband walked inside the room he didn't smell anything. But after a few minutes the scent turned sharper and stronger. I can defo smell it on me without having to pick up my wrist.

Longevity, surprisingly the longevity in this perfume is rather good on me. I was surprised because most perfume doesn't last long on my skin. But this one keeps on going strong for at least 6 hours without any sign of dying down. And then even several hours after that, I can still smell trails on my wrist!

A total of 10 hrs plus, if I may say so.
But alas, even though i finally find a perfume that lasts long (and strong) on my skin, I wasnt’ quite keen on the perfume scent 😒

I actually love the opening and the dry downs, but I just couldn't stand the heart notes cause it hurts my nose and made  me a bit heady.
=> I know, right? why is it the perfumes that can stay long on our skin is always the ones that we don't really fancy, right? *nasib*

>> UPDATED : I tried this again in winter and WOW I must say that I CHANGED MY MIND! This perfume is beautiful in colder weather. When I reviewed this the first time it was summer time and I didn't like the scent, but in winter, this perfume just blooms! The fragrance is beautiful and so so nice. The sillage and longevity are both very good during winter too. It lasts longer and smells beautiful. This is definitely a winter perfume and I would solely wear this during cold weather only :)

Well overall, Gucci Bamboo is a very nice perfume but it’s just not really my type. If only it stays soft and fresh like “clean scented towels” scent that I got at the opening, I would have loved it and would wear this all day. But the crisp bergamot / ylang-ylang notes (?) mixed with strong florals is just a tad bit too sharp for my nose, making me a little bit heady too. Luckily I only bought the miniature size of this perfume so it's not really a waste of money ;) >> See my Updated review above!

Well I’m just not the “straight floral” kinda gal anyway when it comes to perfume. But then again, the intense notes mixed with florals and musk really matches the spirit of this fragrance, which is a portrait of a strong independent yet elegant and feminine woman. So if you like fresh citrusy floral scent or if you prefer "crisp fresh florals" instead of "soft white florals" then you might wanna try this one.

This is also a perfume that you can wear to work because it is not a loud perfume, and it has soft projection too. I imagined a sharp intelligent woman in a blue power suit killin’ it in the meeting room but still prowess a soft, caring, sophisticated side of a lady in herself.

How about you?
Do you like Gucci Bamboo?
