Event: FashioneseDaily blogger gathering with Jamal Hammadi

Jamal Hammadi

Last Sunday I was invited by Fashionese Daily (biggest Indonesian online fashion community) to attend a special gathering with Jamal Hammadi, the famous celebrity hair stylist. The blogger-gathering-slash-special-private-event was held at The Edge cafe which was located on the rooftop of Kemang icon hotel.

The place was beautiful, the food was great and the atmosphere was very cozy. I met some new blogger friends there as well as Fashionese Daily owners / moderators. Thank you Hanzky, Affi and Vanya for inviting me to the event!

Jamal Hammadi is famous for --> creating sensuous and glamorous hairstyles for celebrities, fashion editorial and international haute couture houses alike. His characteristic work has been featured on the covers of British Vogue, British Elle, Vanity Fair, Italian Glamour, InStyle, The Face, Spin, Nylon and Flaunt.

His celebrity clients include Heather Graham, Linda Evangelista, Jennifer Lopez, Nelly Furtado, Lindsay Lohan, Naomi Watts, Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Franco, Sharon Stone, Maya Rudolph, Evan Mendez, and Drew Barrymore.

Additionally, Jamal has styled the tresses of countless super beauties on the New York and Paris runways for Chanel, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, and John Galliano. Wow, is he like, awesome or what?!

I was quite nervous to meet him but also very excited! I even flat-ironed my hair neatly that day because i thought my hair should at least look neat if i'm meeting a hollywood celebrity hair stylist ^o^ I'm wearing my pretty peasant blouse from C2 Outfitters (one of my fave blouse!), Marks & Spencer's red skirt, white skirt from Metro and white studded Yongki sandals to the event:

I really enjoyed the event. Jamal talked about hair styles and treatments. Here's some of Jamal's healthy shine tips:
-->
  • Start with a great cut, take care of the ends of your hair for healthy shine.
  • A clean scalp ensures healthy hair. Be gentle when drying your hair after cleaning, the more you rough it up the more cuticles you will damage.
  • Vitamin E is vital for luscious locks. It’s found in foods such as avocados, berries and nuts.
  • Rinse your hair with cold water after washing to seal the cuticles and lock in moisture and shine.
  • Use a good bristle brush rather than a comb to prevent breakage.
  • Make sure you pump your iron intake. Iron will give hair a fantastic shine. Eat lots of good proteins and vegetables.

Jamal also suggest to use big round brush instead of small brush if you have short hair to make it smoother. And if you have oily hair then opt for mousse instead of gel in terms of styling your hair. Okay, I'm gonna keep this one in mind.

At the event, Jamal styled one of Indonesia's famous top model Aline's hair:

Sorry, my pic is a bit blurry but Aline's hair style turns out real chic!

And he also did a cut to one of the guest, Nia, right there on the spot! Oh how lucky she is, she just got a $500 hair cut!!

We also get to asked a lot of questions. I asked what would he suggest for hair color that best suits women with dark hair and tan skin (a lot of Indonesian women has dark/black hair and darker skin tone), and he said that it's best to go two or three shades lighter than your original color, you don't wanna go too light too soon.

It's also very interesting to learn that Jamal also has his own hair care products called Hammadi Beauty with a tag line "tested on actresses, not animals". And it's organic too! Thumbs up!

Jamal is currently working with sunsilk on a line using urang aring as one of the ingredient. Urang aring can also be found in Indonesia, it's actually pretty common here. Our ancestors already used it to give shine to their black hair.

All in all, it was a great afternoon well spent! I get to meet other Indonesian fashion & beauty bloggers, got some tips and tricks on hair styles and treatments from the hair expert himself, and I got to go home with a goody bag too! Oh how I love goody bags!

Each of us received a set of Static-free Ionic hair brush and comb from Jaguar that comes complete with a traveling case, and a 4gb Transcend USB / Flash Drive.
