1 item 4 ways

Sorry for the long pause on this (supposedly regular) "1 item 4 ways" post where I try to assemble outfits or give you some ideas of dressing up 1 item in 4 ways or 4 styles. This is to give you an idea how one simple item in our wardrobe can be worn multiple times without repeating the same outfit. Here goes...

1 ITEM 4 WAYS

The item is a COLORFUL/PATTERNED CARDIGAN.
This one featured in the photos is from MISSONI and it comes with a sash,
but you can use any colorful or full patterned cardigan in your closet. Just add an un-used ribbon if you don't have any sash.

 First look:
Wear it closed and tied up around your waist.
You can wear this outfit to work or to hang out with your girls. The hat is optional, of course ;)
Pair it with your favorite pants and blouse with little details such as ruffles in the front chest area, don't go too busy in this area though. A high neck or closed collar will look great as well as an open-collar style. See.. I assemble this outfit with a 70s style on my mind. You know 70s style is IN again so I'm just trying to channel that 70s spirit ^o^  Oh and I recommend wearing similar colors or colors from the same palette for the rest of the outfit so they don't overlap the cardigan.

Second Look:
If you love vintage style but the 70s era above is not your thing or not oldie enough for you, then maybe you can try this one. This is more like a 40s - 50s era style.
You can wear this to work or to any formal events. It's basically the same as the first look above: you tied the cardigan in front, add a blouse with a little detail on the front, Then you add a skirt instead of pants. Add tights in similar color as the skirt if it's winter. Same rule as the first look: to tone it down you might want to use similar colors for your bottom half (from the waist below) because you already has that busy pattern/colors on your upper half.

Third Look:
Now this is for more laid back casual style.
Pair it with your favorite dark jeans and let the cardigan swung open. What I assembled here is more like the 80s style but you don't have to copy this look as it is, just use your own taste and creativity ;)
Here I'm using Doc Martin shoes which I think would be trending in this near future because it's everywhere now. I also played with different patterns and colors on this outfit, but you can use a solid color top/blouse too (take one color from the cardi or the same color as your jeans) and add a bag with similar colors or patterns as the cardigan.

Fourth Look:
 This one is pretty eclectic.
I basically take a color or two from the busy cardigan and then applied those colors on the rest of the outfit. I use pink, navy and blue to match the cardigan but I keep it down with solids-only. So if you want to do this trick, make sure you take max of 3 colors from the cardi and then find any solid items in those colors from your closet. Remember, your cardi is already busy so no more patterns please.

And that's your 1 Item 4 Ways this week. Since I always have trouble with Looklet so I apologize for not being able to post this series more often. I don't know why I always have the trouble of saving my pics on Looklet, sometimes it would take a whole half hour (or more!) just to repeatedly trying to save my looks (and sometimes it always failed too -- I don't have time for that!).
So until Looklet decided to finally answer my emails and do something about it (or at least tell me what to do) then this series would be a monthly series instead of weekly series. Don't blame me, blame Looklet.

  1. Whoa- how creative! I love all four ways that you styled it, but especially the last. It's fun and interesting without being too overwhelming. Beautiful!

  2. I love how you've remixed this and made it look retro or modern. 70s, 40s or current, it looks great. I think my favourite look is the last one but then I do love colour.

  3. I like the 70s and 80s look! When I first started reading this post, I was wondering how you were going to create 4 original looks with such a unique cardigan, but you proved me wrong!

  4. @Emma: I'm glad you like #4 because I was hesitated to publish this one, I wasn't sure if it looks okay. But I guess, it turns out fine, yes? haha

@MizzJ: Thank you darling! Your comment was the best thing I've heard today :D
